Protect What You're Building
When you hire a developer or development company to build software, the agreement governing that relationship matters.
Who owns the code and other work product? What exactly is being delivered? When are payments due? What happens if the project falls behind, the scope changes or the relationship ends before the work is complete?
And perhaps most importantly: does your company actually own what it's paying to build?
Meyer Law's Software Development Agreement Package gives you customized agreements designed to protect your business, intellectual property and investment while clearly defining expectations with your developer.
Whether you're building an app, SaaS platform, website, internal tool or other custom technology, we'll structure the agreements around your project and development relationship.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this package only for software developers?
It's designed for businesses engaging developers or development companies to create apps, SaaS products, platforms, websites, internal tools and other custom technology.
What if I'm building a mobile app?
This package covers the agreement between you and the developer building your app.
If you also need the legal documents governing the relationship between your company and the people who will use the app, our Mobile App Startup Legal Package includes customized app terms and privacy documents.
Who owns the software after it's developed?
Your agreement will specifically address intellectual property and work-product ownership. We'll structure those provisions based on your development arrangement and address relevant issues involving pre-existing, third-party and open-source materials.
What if the developer provides their own contract?
If your developer or agency has already provided an agreement, reviewing and negotiating their agreement may be more appropriate than drafting a new agreement. Contact us and we'll determine the right approach.
What if my developer is overseas?
International development relationships can raise additional issues involving governing law, dispute resolution and enforceability. Let us know before purchasing so we can determine whether your engagement fits within the standard package.
Does this include negotiating with the developer?
No. This package includes preparation of your customized agreements and one round of revisions based on your feedback. Negotiation with your developer or development agency can be handled separately.
Can I reuse the agreement?
The agreement can provide a strong starting point for future development relationships, but different developers and projects may require changes to the scope, business terms and legal provisions.
How long does it take?
Most packages are completed within 1–3 weeks after your consultation and receipt of the information we need.
